Pakistan Elected Vice Chair at UNESCO Heritage Session

Pakistan has been elected as Vice-Chair of the General Assembly of State Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, marking a notable step in the country’s continued engagement with global cultural preservation efforts.

The development reflects Pakistan’s steady commitment to protecting living traditions, community practices and cultural expressions that form an important part of its diverse identity. Through such representation, Pakistan is expected to play a more active role in supporting international cooperation aimed at preserving heritage that is passed from one generation to the next.

Pakistan has consistently contributed to multinational inscriptions and wider preservation initiatives connected to the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. Its role in these efforts highlights the country’s focus on promoting traditions that reflect the depth and diversity of its cultural landscape.

With this new responsibility, Pakistan will continue working closely with Member States to advance shared goals under the 2003 Convention. The election also underscores Pakistan’s broader position in global discussions on heritage protection, especially on efforts designed to ensure that living traditions remain visible, valued and transmitted to future generations.
