Progress on Australia Pakistan Investment Treaty

Senior officials met in Islamabad this week to advance work on modernising the 1998 Investment Treaty between Australia and Pakistan. The talks, hosted by the Australian High Commission in Pakistan, focused on updating terms to reflect contemporary investment practices and mutual priorities.

Delegates emphasised that a revised Investment Treaty will help attract foreign investment and support broader economic cooperation, creating clearer protections and incentives for investors from both countries. Pakistani and Australian teams discussed technical provisions and next steps for finalising the agreement.

Officials thanked Minister Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh and his team for the warm reception in Islamabad and noted the constructive atmosphere as negotiations continue. Both sides signalled a shared commitment to conclude the modernisation process to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
