Strengthening Nursing Education in Sindh

A delegation from the Government of Sindh met with Aga Khan University leadership to explore concrete steps to improve nursing education across the province. Syed Qassim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh for Investment and Public–Private Partnership, and Dr Dabeer Khan held discussions with AKU President Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, Provost Dr Tania Bubela, and Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery Dr Salimah Walani alongside other senior faculty and administrators.

The talks focused on strengthening the quality, capacity, and professional standards of nursing education in Sindh and on seeking AKU support for the government’s planned School of Nursing and Midwifery at Tando Muhammad Khan. Participants explored collaborative approaches that could raise training standards and expand student intake in underserved districts.

Areas discussed included curriculum enhancement, faculty development, clinical training partnerships and potential accreditation support, emphasising how a reinforced nursing education system can improve patient care locally. The delegation and AKU leadership considered how a public private partnership model could mobilise resources and expertise to build sustainable training capacity for nurses in the region.

Both sides said continued engagement will be needed to translate discussions into practical steps, with a focus on delivering higher professional standards and broader opportunities for nursing graduates in Sindh. Strengthening nursing education, they agreed, is central to building a resilient health workforce for communities such as Tando Muhammad Khan and beyond.
