Advancing Media Literacy Among University Faculty

CPDI organised a three-day training on media literacy and digital rights for faculty from eight universities across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The programme brought together academics to build capacity in identifying misinformation, understanding the evolving media landscape and protecting democratic discourse online.

The sessions covered media evolution, the mechanics and effects of misinformation, digital threats to democracy, gender portrayal in media, and the impact of AI and social media algorithms on content distribution. Faculty engaged with these themes to better equip students and colleagues on campus to recognise digital risks and promote responsible information practices.

This activity was part of the EU-supported project Strengthening Media Persons’ Capacity and Engagement for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, jointly implemented by CPDI and Individualland with support from the European Union in Pakistan, Institute for Research, Advocacy and Development (IRADA), the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency and Media Matters for Democracy. Participants will now carry out follow-up sessions at their universities to extend the reach of the media literacy and digital rights work.
