Psychodrama Promotes Mental Health After Floods
On October 7, 2025 the Psychology Drama Society of the Department of Psychology at International Islamic University Islamabad staged a psychodrama called ‘Khuwabon Ki Khak Sy Umeed Tak’ as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
The performance traced the psychological struggles and resilience of those affected by devastating floods, portraying the painful journey through trauma and loss toward emotional recovery. The psychodrama examined how faith, community support and timely psychological care can help rebuild lives and restore hope after catastrophe.
Through convincing performances and realistic storytelling the cast brought attention to often-overlooked mental health challenges that follow natural disasters. The production underscored the need for empathy, accessible psychological services and community-based interventions for flood survivors across Pakistan.
The event was supported by Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood in her capacity as In-Charge Female Campus, and drew faculty members and students from a range of departments. Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Student Advisor (Female Campus), and Dr. Nazia Iqbal, In-Charge Department of Psychology (Female Campus), praised the Society for using art to communicate complex psychological themes.
Organisers and attendees expressed hope that the Psychology Drama Society will continue to use creative platforms to promote emotional wellbeing and psychological insight, reinforcing how psychodrama can play a constructive role in community recovery and mental health education.
