CDA Model Nursery upgraded into Gardenia Hub in Islamabad

Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, inspected the CDA Model Nursery on Park Road and received a detailed briefing on its transformation into the Gardenia Hub. Officials outlined progress on upgrades that include controlled ventilated greenhouses, a training and research center, flower retail units, and a tissue culture facility, describing the project as entering its final stages and being developed to international, state-of-the-art standards.

Randhawa conducted a room-by-room inspection of the nursery alongside Member Environment Asfandyar Baloch and other senior officers. During the visit he was briefed on the scope of works and shown the nursery’s various sections, including newly constructed greenhouse units designed to provide optimal conditions for plant growth.

The upgrade plan features controlled ventilated greenhouses intended to create ideal microclimates for both cultivation and research. Officials said these structures will support improved plant care, scientific study, and year-round propagation, while also showcasing modern horticultural techniques.

The facility will also host a training and research center and a modern tissue culture unit for propagating new plant varieties using advanced methods. Flower shops and retail spaces will be integrated into the site, and a dedicated exhibition area has been set aside to display a wide range of seasonal and off-season flowers.

Chairman Randhawa instructed CDA Environment Wing staff to receive specialized training in plant care and protection to ensure the long-term success of the upgraded facility. He praised the project team’s efforts and expressed confidence that the Model Nursery, as the Gardenia Hub, will meet Islamabad’s horticultural needs and serve as a regional center of excellence.

Officials emphasized that the Gardenia Hub is intended not only to enhance the city’s visual appeal but also to generate employment opportunities in the horticulture sector. The project is presented as a strategic step toward positioning Islamabad as a greener, more attractive capital with strengthened horticultural capabilities.
